Jeff Pinar· 5 months agoThe St. Augustine YWCA is a true cornerstone of compassion and community support. Their commitment to empowering women, supporting families, and creating safe, nurturing spaces is evident in everything they do. The staff and volunteers are caring, dedicated, and genuinely invested in the well-being of those they serve. From outreach programs to essential resources, the YWCA provides hope, dignity, and encouragement to individuals during some of life’s most difficult moments. Their work strengthens the entire St. Augustine community and reflects the YWCA’s long-standing mission of service, equality, and social justice. St. Augustine is blessed to have such an impactful organization making a real difference every day. I highly recommend supporting and partnering with the St. Augustine YWCA in any way possible. Pp
Soltice 1111· 6 months agoMy connection with St Augustine YMCA is more than a fitness place , so please read my post. In 2016 my ex husband , my son and I moved to Saint Augustine with the intention of building a home . Saint Augustine looks so much like my island in PR that I felt in love with the town. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. The situation got bad when my health took a toll. I have so injuries from a car accident and I couldn’t work as much as I wanted to. My ex husband was working for the city of Saint Augustine, but the money wasn’t enough. We put some money down for a lot and we had no other choice than to put a tent and stay there to save money because all our money was gone by staying in hotels . The YMCA was close by the hotel we were staying at. One day we had to sleep in the car , actually a lot of nights with my child who was 6 years old at the time. It was one of the hardest time in my life. Then my ex husband go sick too. He almost died of a septic shock . It was bad . We were homeless, living in a tent . One day I went to the YMCA and asked if we could it take a bath and this is when my relationship with YMCA started . There was a lady name Lisa who when she saw me desperate not only let us the shower but pay for a hotel room for two days until Monday . It was hard to find a cheap hotel on the weekends. I am crying as I write this post . Lisa told us that we could go every day to take a shower in there, and we did. Every day we used to go in the morning before my son was ready to go to school and every evening before headed back to our tent . There was a few people who help me tremendously. A Muslim girl , a very young black girl , two white ladies who even give us money to fix our car . The lady in the bathroom who defended me and my 6 year old when another white lady accused my son of sexual harassment. Yeah, people can be that stupid. I remember one Friday Lisa told us to leave my son Armany with them so we can have at least one night for us. I remember all the close door we had like for example the fire department next to the beach who asked us if he were drug addicts or alcoholics when we didn’t do anything. Or the many people who treated us bad because we are Hispanic. The hotel attendant who told me in my face that things were going to chance ones Trump took over. The school secretary who thought that I was a horrible mom because I was late when I was looking for a job. Yes, that’s Saint Augustine, but in the middle of all that YMCA was my oasis , my safe place. Where I felt protected and not judge. Lisa is one of the greatest person I have ever met. My marriage did not last. We broke up unfortunately. I think thinks like this breaks down people, but I am ok. For the staff of YMCA specifically Lisa even though she doesn’t work there anymore, know that my son is 15 now. He is doing music . He is in a honorary classes and I am raising him as a single mom. Thank you for all the things you did for us when we needed.
Michael Jennifer Brabson· 4 months agoIf you've shopped around you already know there are a lot of gyms in the St Augustine area. None offers the atmosphere the Y does and your experience here will be rewarding. The instructors are top notch, the equipment is like new and the basketball gym offers family fun. There are activities at the Y you won't find anywhere else, for example Parent's Night Out and Movie Night. Different social activities throughout the year make the YMCA stand out among it's peers.
Carmen Panzar· 11 months agoGreat facility with lots of exercising equipment. Nice parking lot with lots of shade. Very friendly staff, they also organize small socials for customers. The trainers are easy to relate to and they offer exercise options for all levels. You can book the classes of interest one day in advance, but also have access to equipment to run your own routines.
