The Local Guide

Venice pickleball: one of Florida's most concentrated player populations

Venice has an extraordinary ratio of pickleball players to residents. The city's demographics and its parks investment have combined into a scene where courts run full most mornings from October onward and the standard of steady, well-placed play is high.

Best for

  • · High-volume open play
  • · Soft game and dinking
  • · Quiet summer courts

Best time to visit

October – April, empty in summer

Expect a queue

Paddle racks here are not decorative. In season, arriving at 8am for a 9am session is normal practice. The flip side is that games start on time, rotations are efficient, and nobody hogs a court.

Style of play

Patient. Venice games favor placement, soft hands and long dink exchanges over power. Newer players used to banging will find themselves out-thought rather than out-hit, which is a fast way to improve.

Off-season upside

May through September, the same courts that had twenty people waiting have four. Summer regulars here get some of the best uncrowded play in the state, and morning temperatures are manageable near the coast.
