The Local Guide

Punta Gorda pickleball: a small harbor town with real court depth

Punta Gorda is compact, walkable around the harbor, and has invested in pickleball well beyond what its population would suggest. It's a favorite stop for players working their way up or down the Gulf coast.

Best for

  • · Road-trip stopovers
  • · Newly resurfaced courts
  • · Welcoming small-town play

Best time to visit

November – April

Why it's worth the detour

Coming down from Sarasota or up from Fort Myers, Punta Gorda is a natural break — and unlike most stops on that drive, it has enough courts that you'll get on one. The harbor setting doesn't hurt either.

Rebuilding and current conditions

Charlotte County was hit hard by recent hurricanes and several facilities have been repaired, resurfaced or relocated. The upside is a lot of very new surfacing. The catch is that hours and access change — confirm before you drive.

The local crowd

Small-town friendly. Regulars will pull a visitor into a game without much preamble. Skill runs from genuine beginner through solid 4.0, and both find games most mornings.
