The Local Guide

Key West pickleball: the southernmost courts in the continental US

Key West pickleball is exactly as informal as the island itself. There aren't many courts, the scene is small, and the play is social first — but there's a real regular crowd, and hitting balls ninety miles from Cuba has a novelty that doesn't wear off quickly.

Best for

  • · Casual social play
  • · Novelty and travel
  • · Small friendly groups

Best time to visit

December – April

Small scene, tight group

A handful of courts and a core group of locals who play most mornings. Show up, introduce yourself, and you'll be in a game. This is not a place where you'll find twenty courts and rating-segregated rotations.

Heat, sun and wind

The sun is brutal at this latitude and there's very little shade. Morning play, hats, and more water than you think you need. Sea breeze can be strong enough to change your serve strategy on exposed courts.

Working it into a Keys trip

Marathon, Islamorada and Key Largo all have courts on the drive down, so a Keys road trip can be strung together as a court tour. Key West is the endpoint rather than the main event, and that's the right way to think about it.
